About MLA format
MLA (Modern Language Association) style is the standard citation format for literature, language, and the humanities. It uses an author-page system for in-text citations, like (Smith), and lists full sources on a Works Cited page with the source title placed right after the author's name.

How do I format an MLA in-text citation? ↓
Use the author's last name in parentheses, for example (Smith). Unlike APA, MLA in-text citations don't include the year unless needed to tell two sources apart.
What if I don't know the author? ↓
Leave the author field blank — the citation will start with the page title instead, which is standard MLA practice when no author is listed.
How are months abbreviated in MLA? ↓
MLA abbreviates most months to three or four letters with a period (Jan., Feb., Sept., etc.), except May, June, and July, which are already short enough to stay unabbreviated. This tool applies that rule automatically.
