APA citation

Creates a link with what you entered — anyone with the link can see it.

About APA format

APA (American Psychological Association) style is the standard citation format for psychology, education, and the social sciences. It uses an author-date system: the publication year appears right after the author's name, both in the reference list and in in-text citations like (Smith, 2026).

Everything runs in your browser as you type — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored anywhere. The one exception is if you tap "Share This Citation": that specifically sends what you entered to us so we can generate a short link for you to share.

Frequently asked questions

How do I format an APA in-text citation?

Use the author's last name and the publication year in parentheses, for example (Smith, 2026). If there's no author, use a shortened version of the title instead.

What if I don't know the author?

Leave the author field blank — the citation will start with the publish date instead, which is standard APA practice when no author is listed.

Do I need a retrieval or access date?

Usually not. APA 7th edition only recommends a retrieval date for content likely to change over time, such as a wiki or a live dashboard — not for a standard, stable webpage or article.

Does this tool store or upload what I type?

Using the generator itself never sends anything to a server. The only exception is if you tap "Share This Citation" — that specifically sends what you entered to us so we can generate a short link for you to share.
